Close to one in three UK employees are opting not to join a company pension scheme, new research indicates.
A survey from IFA group Origen, questioning 325 UK firms, found of those individuals eligible to join an occupational pension scheme, as many as 29% are not contributing despite 75% of companies offering more than 10% of salary for the employee benefits package. Research revealed finds employers offering defined benefit, or final salary, pension schemes contribute an average of 13.2% of each worker's salary to the scheme, while the average combined employer/employee contribution of 10.7% to a DC scheme is believed fall short for an adequate retirement.
