Friends Provident is set to take inspiration from concepts including life cover by text after completing a global tour to witness first hand other nations' protection industries.

Head of protection Mark Jones says the insurer is already searching for ways to incorporate lessons learned on a 23,000-mile trip that took him to four countries and across three continents in just nine days. "The aim was to try to understand what works and why, and to see if anything could work in the UK," Jones says. "Sometimes things worked purely because of the local environment, such as the tax laws or the culture, and not all of it would work over here.
