Partygaming keeps FTSE above 6,000

The FTSE 100 has ended the day slightly down with a drop of 3.3 points, or 0.05%, to 6,001.2, as a poor opening in the US knocked the index.

Partygaming was the biggest gainer with a rise of 3.75% to 41.5p, on hopes of further consolidation in the sector, while Severn Trent gained 2.38% to £14.17 and Kelda Group climbed 1.84% to 911.5p. On the downside Sage Group was the biggest loser with a drop of 2.97% to 237.25p, after reports Morgan Stanley is placing 22 million shares in the market, while insurer Prudential slipped 1.7% to 635p, and drug company AstraZeneca fell 1.58% to £33.
