Latest Nationwide figures suggest house prices gained in February but that the rate of house price inflation in the past 12 months has slipped again.
February saw prices on average edge up 0.5% to just shy of £153,000, however, annualised inflation has fallen to 10.2% from 12.6% in January. The fall-off in house price increases seen through the second half of 2004 has abated, Nationwide says, although total gains so far this year at 0.9% suggest the market has stabilised. The lender’s forecast of price growth through 2005 still stands at between 0% to 5%, against the gains so far, which suggest prices would rise by 6% by December.
