Over six million workers are not contributing to a pension plan with many stating concerns over affordability as the main reason, claims new research from B&CE Benefit Schemes.
Independent research, conducted on behalf of the stakeholder pensions provider, reveals one in four workers say they can’t afford to pay into a pension plan, while 20% stated they just hadn’t got round to it yet. Although 37% of individuals in full-time work don’t contribute to a pension plan, the equivalent of 6.5 million people, the research claims a quarter of people in full-time employment, or 4.5 million people, do not make any provision at all for their retirement.
