BOC takes FTSE higher

FTSE 100 index is up 26.8 points, or 0.5%, at 5,660.4 this morning, recovering all of Tuesday's loss.

BOC is leading the gain after German rival Linde confirmed it is offering 15 pounds a share for the company - £7.6bn. BOC has risen 4.95% to 1,463p after a jump of more than 20% on Tuesday. Gains in the mining sector also lent support, helped by buoyant metals prices and signs China's booming economy is growing faster than expected. Shares in BHP Billiton have risen 1.85% to 1,018.50p, while Antofagasta has gained 2.40% to 1,961p and Rio Tinto has added 1.41% to 2,884p.
