Millions of women are facing an impoverished retirement because of a state pension system that overlooks the needs of women, claims new research from Scottish Widows.
A report from the provider, entitled “What Women Want”, reveals more men than women are likely to contribute to a pension fund, and while men are more likely to save after becoming fathers, 50% of women stop saving after having children. The findings, which reveal two-thirds of Britain's poorest pensioners are currently women, also focuses on the pressures women face which limit their saving ability, including having children, unequal pay and employment opportunities combined with a heavier dependence on the state pension than men.
