Report shows 82% of non-doms considering leaving UK

A survey by Investec Bank (Channel Islands) among its customers has found that more than three-quarters (82%) of UK resident non-domiciles are considering leaving the country in light of the UK Government's crackdown on foreign earnings, as well as changes to the residence and domicile rules.

The bank has commissioned a report, by Professor Brian Scott-Quinn from the ICMA Centre at University of Reading, which calls on the Government to reverse its proposals and introduce new measures to increase the advantages of the UK in the face of growing competition from other countries. The financial services sector faces perhaps the most serious threat, with many large City firms employing multinational workforces, of whom up to 40% can be of non-British descent.
