A year after Michael Lindsell took over running the Close Finsbury Japanese Equity fund, following the departure of Scott McGlashan, it has achieved a return of 24.7%. Lindsell said: "We attribute the success to an unusual focus on dividends. Most Japanese investors ignore dividends and the contribution they make to returns, as historically yields were so low while capital gains over short periods of time have proven to be dramatic and more alluring."
