Positive earnings forecasts by UK firms today caused the FTSE 100 index to surge 113.10 points to 4,175.50 as just four stocks made losses. Granada was the biggest winner of the day, surging 6.75p to 82p on comments by US media behemoth AOL Time Warner that it did not see itself pushing aggressively into the UK market in the short term.
