There has been a raft of important news to start off the year, with top stories including the ongoing dispute between the Personal Finance Society (PFS) and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

  Policy watch… The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced that it is undertaking a thematic review assessing the advice consumers are receiving on meeting their income needs in retirement. It will also focus on how firms are responding to changing consumer needs as a result of the rising cost of living. The regulator will begin the review in Q1 and aims to publish a report setting out its findings in Q4.
