It has been just over two years since I became co-investment director of the Old Mutual multi-asset team and the period has certainly not lacked for excitement. From the China-induced market swoon, to the surprise Brexit vote and on to Donald Trump's shock victory, the macroeconomic and geopolitical environment kept investors on their toes in 2016. For its part, much of 2017 has been characterised by the reversal of the so-called ‘reflation trade' alongside particularly strong gains for emerging-market assets.
