  Freedom? Pensions ‘freedom' mightn't be anything of the sort according to a piece in the Telegraph at the weekend, which highlighted the "onerous" penalties that could hit savers looking to access their pots. Figures obtained by the paper suggest at least 250,000 pension plans carry "early encashment penalties", but it concluded the actual figure could be closer to 500,000. The report said the penalties can be as much as 20% of the retirement pot, according to "industry insiders".
