Vanessa Owen, head of equity release at LV=, explains the opportunities in the equity release market and what it takes to be an adviser in the sector.

The opportunity According to the Pension Policy Institute report in September last year, the value of housing wealth owned by people over state pension age could increase by 40% on today's figure of £907bn by 2030, of which £251bn could be released to support retirement. Given the total equity release market is currently around £1bn, there's a huge opportunity to offer clients advice on accessing the money tied up in their homes over the coming years.
