Expatriates in the Middle East are in it for the long haul, according to a survey carried out by Zurich International Life in the region. Of 500 expats surveyed (350 in Dubai and 150 in Bahrain) for the Zurich International Life Expatriate Wealth Monitor, the average length of time during which they had lived in the region thus far was nine years. Nearly a third (32%) had been there for 11 years or more, with 9% having worked abroad for more than 20 years.
