PA Awards 2012: Who will be named Personality of the Year?

clock • 2 min read

Professional Adviser is proud to announce the nominees for its Adviser Personality of the Year award 2012.

In the weeks before Christmas we asked you to nominate the personalities in the world of financial advice you felt were worthy of this year's Adviser Personality of the Year award.

We wanted to hear about people who have stood out as promoters of financial advice, thought leaders or individuals actively involved in education. Today, we are pleased to announce the five nominees.

The votes to determine the winner will be cast by guests attending the Professional Adviser Awards at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel on 9 February 2012.

Spotlight on… Adviser Personality of the Year nominees

Phil Calvert, founder, IFALife calvert-philip

With an unshakeable belief that IFAs are best placed to provide help and support to other advisers, Calvert has single-handedly challenged (and modernised) the traditional network/support model with groundbreaking social networking site IFA Life. With 8,000 financial professionals using the site, he is helping IFAs across the UK every day.

Dick Carne, director, Asset Management IFA carne-dick

AIFA council member Dick Carne, who founded Asset Management IFA in 1982, is a passionate supporter of the smaller IFA business and, last year, was appointed to the FSA's smaller businesses practitioner panel. He feels regulators have much to answer for after the decline in personal savings, protection and pension investment over the last 25 years, and believes there needs to be a culture change at the FSA.

Keith Churchouse, director, Chapters Financial    churchouse-keith-1

Keith Churchouse has found it a pleasure to serve the financial advice profession for more than 25 years as it has developed and as clients' needs continue to grow through the RDR process and beyond. He would like to congratulate all those shortlisted.

Mark Hoskin, Chartered Financial Planner, Holden & Partnershoskins-mark

Mark is a chartered accountant, CFP and chartered financial planner. Since 2007, Holden & Partners has produced its annual Guide to Climate Change Investment and, last year, with the help of the likes of Schroders and Henderson, launched www.worldwiseinvestor.com. The mission is to help advisers and their clients understand investment risks that are not widely understood, or written about.

Ian Lowes, managing director, Lowes Financial Management   ian-lowes

Ian Lowes is a staunch and often outspoken supporter of core IFA values. This has been particularly apparent in the sphere of structured products. Lowes initially came to prominence with public warnings about what became known as precipice bonds, and thereafter he has campaigned to ensure the sector is given due consideration. This has led to the founding of StructuredProductReview.com, a free-to-use research and education facility for IFAs which now has over 5,500 users.
