I'm sure it's a coincidence that the Financial Condcut Authority publishes its retirement income market data a month before the Autumn Budget, but I do wonder whether chancellors or their teams actually take a look at it? There has certainly been a close connection between budgets and retirement income – whether it's the greater freedoms in pensions, which came into effect as this data started to be collected, or two years ago when the government announced that inheritance tax would be payable on whatever you had left.
