The last 12 months have been turbulent in the mortgage market. As an adviser based in London, we have seen the rises in interest rates put enormous pressure on mortgage customers' budgets and the impact of the increasing cost of a mortgage has had a huge effect on protection. I believe a key problem when advisers speak to clients about protection when it is only and specifically related to a mortgage being taken out, is that it is, therefore, not seen by the customer as a separate need, but as a secondary need.
