Fast developing technology twinned with the emergence of vertically integrated firms in the equity release space has changed the market over the past three years, writes Rory Gravatt. But what of advice?

In the three years since the launch of the Learning to Ski whitepaper we have seen substantial changes in the equity release market. Products have undergone revision, lenders are getting faster, the pandemic changed a lot of lender and customer thinking, and Altus is currently witnessing first-hand a technology arms race in the origination space that will make it easier for advisers to do business.  Our analogy, back in 2019, of waxing the skis as we learnt to "spend the kids' inheritance", is bearing fruit with lenders.
