We work in a data-hungry industry where the information collected is often very sensitive. As such, the trust shown in us by our clients when handling their data should not be taken lightly. On 25 May, the General Data Protection Regulation - ‘GDPR' for short - comes into effect, bringing with it new obligations for advisers when handling client data, greater rights for consumers and the prospect of eye-watering fines imposed on those not adhering to the rules.
