One of my fellow IFAonline bloggers made some interesting observations about industry awards ceremonies in his latest submission. And given that I seem to have attended more of these events this year than ever before I thought I would add my own opinions to the debate.
Undoubtedly it is great to reward those who excel, and a glitzy ceremony with bright lights, gourmet food and celebrity presenters create a very glamorous method of delivering such accolades. Receiving an award can be a very exciting experience especially if you have not been tipped off in advance about whether you have won. But whilst I believe that we should celebrate the successes of those in the industry that work hard, I can't help thinking that the current structure of all these many awards ceremonies is simply a masterclass in conformity.
