Normally I would begin by wishing all our readers a happy new year, but judging from the climate in the markets at the moment, this would not go down too well. The year 2008 has begun where 2007 left off - with jitters on the stockmarket and widespread consumer fears fuelled by reports of the credit crunch and falling house prices (a subject always guaranteed to make the general public nervous).
