FCA opens authorisation gateway for crypto firms

Ahead of supervisory framework coming into force

The Financial Conduct Authority has opened its authorisation gateway for crypto firms ahead of its supervisory framework coming into force in October 2027.

Crypto firms can apply for authorisation from this week (30 September), a "landmark" moment as the UK moves towards full regulation, the FCA said. Firms intending to continue operating in the country should apply by 28 February, with the regime coming into force on 25 October 2027. The new framework will have clear standards covering consumer protection, safeguarding, market integrity and financial resilience, the regulator said, giving investors protections they have not had before and working to give the sector the clarity and legitimacy associated with proper regulation.
