Chancellor John Healey has pledged a “new age of industrialisation”, putting investment, defence and regional growth at the heart of the government’s economic agenda.
Speaking in Liverpool today (28 September) at Labour's conference, Healey said the government's economic strategy would focus on generating growth outside London, backing British businesses and using public investment to attract private capital. He said the government would use its spending power to direct more taxpayers' money towards British businesses, jobs and innovation, arguing that stronger growth was ultimately the route to improving the public finances.
