The chair of the Advisers' Sustainability Group (ASG) has written to the Financial Conduct Authority to ascertain its views on how advisers should engage with clients around sustainability topics.
Daniel Godfrey has asked the regulator to clarify its views on issues where the absence of a clear position "creates uncertainty that will likely limit the adoption and long-term success of the ASG's recommendations". Specifically, the chair has asked the FCA to share its stance on whether asking clients about sustainability preferences should become standard practice, and whether advisers should be expected to consider material sustainability risks even when clients do not raise them.
