FCA refuses to lift ban on IFA as case goes to Upper Tribunal

The Financial Conduct Authority has refused to lift its five-year ban on IFA and mortgage adviser Anthony George, with the decision now being taken to the Upper Tribunal.

George was banned from working in financial services by the FCA in 2021 after being found to have deliberately understated his income to HMRC. The adviser has since sought to revoke the prohibition order, but his application has been refused by the watchdog, the latest decision notice dated 15 July shows. George applied in August 2024 to have the ban removed, arguing that he had demonstrated sufficient rehabilitation during almost five years away from regulated financial services.
