Schroders plans to maintain a strong position in the advice market following the agreed sale of Benchmark Capital, with its focus on being a provider and continuing to educate advisers on investments such as private markets.
Speaking during a joint interview alongside Schroders Capital director James Lowe, Schroders head of UK wealth Jamie Fowler stressed that the sale of Benchmark Capital to Söderberg & Partners represents a move towards simplification rather than reticence about the adviser space. The sale, Fowler said, goes back to Schroders group CEO Richard Oldfield wanting to "simplify the businesses", as Schroders looks to focus in on areas where the firm believes it has the "best chance of creating long-term value for shareholders and clients."
