HMRC social media scam report email used just three times

‘Dispiriting’ figure suggests public knowledge gap on fraud reporting

A HMRC email address intended for the public to report suspicious social media activity has received just three referrals since its launch in November 2025, Professional Adviser can reveal.

The email address, [email protected] is aimed at the public reporting social media tax scams where HMRC's name is being mis-used. The value of such fraud attempts can be vast. In one recent example, HMRC blocked £153m of suspected fraudulent claims to it that it linked to a TikTok tax information scam, in which people were allegedly incentivised to hand over details with the promise of financial rewards.
