Funding university is increasingly becoming a “family affair” with many parents planning to financially assist their children, Rathbones chartered financial planner Charlotte Kennedy has said.
This follows research from Rathbones that showed 69% of parents expect to cover at least half of the total cost of university, with 15% expecting to pay all or almost all costs themselves. The wealth firm interviewed 1,010 parents and grandparents via research house Pureprofile in late May 2026. Meanwhile, 23% expect to cover most costs, and 31% anticipate an equal split between student loans and parental support.
