Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves has nominated Imperial College London economics professor Jonathan Haskel as the next chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
His appointment is subject to the approval of the cross-party parliamentary Treasury Committee, which approves all appointments to the Budget Responsibility Committee, including the chair. In the interim, Budget Responsibility Committee members professor David Miles and Tom Josephs will continue to lead the OBR. Haskel will appear before the committee for a pre-appointment hearing in due course and is expected to take up his post in time to oversee the OBR produce its forecast ahead of the government's annual Budget later this year.
