Majority of self-employed women fail to assess maternity leave/retirement impact

Just 18% said they had completed detailed planning on mat leave financial impact

Almost two-thirds of self-employed women (62%) have not assessed the impact taking maternity leave will have on their retirement plans, according to research from PensionBee.

The provider said that, within this group, 36% had not thought about it at all and 26% had thought about it but not carried out the calculations. It found just 18% had completed detailed planning on the outcomes. PensionBee said almost half of respondents (47%) either reduced their pension contributions or stopped saving altogether. However, it found that 36% maintained the same level of pension contributions while on maternity.
