Darren Jones moves from Treasury to serve as chief secretary to the prime minister

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has kickstarted September with a series of high-profile personnel changes on the government’s first day back from summer break.

Darren Jones, now the former chief secretary to the Treasury and current MP for Bristol North West, has been moved to a newly created role at Number 10, serving as chief secretary to the prime minister. Jones will report directly to Starmer and will be responsible for helping to deliver the prime minister's priorities, which will include "growth people feel in their pockets, secure borders, and getting the NHS back on its feet", according to Number 10.
