Current direct marketing rules could significantly hinder the delivery of targeted support, providers and trade associations have warned the regulator.
A Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) consultation paper on the delivery of targeted support, released today (30 June), said the regulator had received "extensive feedback" that highlighted the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which provides people with an "absolute right to object to direct marketing," could significantly hinder the delivery of targeted support.
