Former CEO of the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) Nick Cann has been honoured for his work with stroke sufferers.

Cann (pictured) received the British Empire Medal in this year's New Years honours, which recognises an individual's hands-on services to the local community. Seven years ago Cann suffered a stroke that left him with severe asphasia - a complex communication and language disorder that meant he had to re-learn how to speak and read. The former head of the Bristol-based financial planning body could not say or write his name and would confuse the words ‘yes' and ‘no'.
