AE safety net for employed women leaves entrepreneurs to struggle

A third of female entrepreneurs in the UK are not saving any money towards their retirement, figures from Scottish Widows show.

Despite the success of auto-enrolment (AE) in raising pension participation rates among female staffers, the latest Scottish Widows Women and Retirement Report showed less than half (46%) of the self-employed are able to save the recommended minimum. With the number of self-employed women at an all-time high of 1.7 million in the UK, this equates to 567,000 who are not saving into a pension at all.
