Urges guidance to be made default

The Work and Pensions Select Committee has called on the government to ban pensions cold calls by the middle of next year through the Financial Guidance and Claims bill.

In report from the Work and Pensions Select Committee calls for pensions cold calling should be banned by 2018, as well as the enforcement of a default guidance provision that ensures everyone either receives or expressly refuses guidance. Chair Frank Field said: "Every day that passes without a ban, people are being avoidably conned out of their life savings. There is no need to overcomplicate this: our proposal would see an enforceable ban in place by summer, closing at least one door on rafts of scammers at a stroke.
