Tyrie demands FCA clarity on whistle-blower protections

Regulator's new measures could be 'undermined'

MPs have attacked the Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) treatment of whistle-blowers, saying it had "still not grasped what's needed to create an appropriate environment for them" and demanding it be clear about its approach.

Chairman of the Treasury Committee Andrew Tyrie (pictured) wrote to the regulator to remind it to protect the identity of those who speak out about bad practices at their firms. He said its recent treatment of campaign group the SME Alliance suggested it "may be neglecting the reasonable needs of whistle-blowers". SME Alliance is a small organisation campaigning on behalf of SMEs that have problems with banks.
