Tory minister Ros Altmann expelled from Labour Party

Pensions minister and Conservative peer Ros Altmann has been expelled by the Labour Party after it emerged she had been a member for the past 18 months.

Altmann (pictured) was appointed minister of state for pensions by David Cameron's Conservative government in May but simultaneously held a membership with the opposition party. Labour officials terminated her membership after discovering she was entitled to vote in its current leadership election, saying she had been a member since at least March 2014. It is unknown if Altmann is also a member of the Conservative Party but she was made a Conservative peer by Cameron following the May general election in order to allow her to act as a minister in his government.
