Having spent more years than I care to admit in this industry, some advising financial services providers in Europe against imposing their ‘product sophistication' on a range of unsuspecting markets around the globe, I treat the notion that the UK can somehow ‘export' the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) to the rest of the world with a degree of wry suspicion. RDR in the UK is barely two years old and, as a number of commentators have pointed out recently, some aspects of it have yet to fully bed-in, with some adviser behaviour still very firmly based in the old rather than the new world...
