Aviva chairman McFarlane leaves to head Barclays

John McFarlane, the chairman of insurer Aviva, has left the business to become chairman of banking group Barclays.

McFarlane, who will leave Aviva at its annual general meeting in April next year, will be replaced by Sir Adrian Montague, the insurer said in an announcement to the stock exchange. Montague said: "It will be a privilege to chair Aviva. The company is recovering strongly and delivering against its investment thesis of cash flow plus growth, under the new, strong management team ably led by Mark Wilson.
