Huge swathes of the population risk missing out on pension contributions because they do not qualify for auto-enrolment.
While one million workers have already been auto-enrolled into a pension scheme according to figures from The Pensions Regulator, a further 1.7 million did not qualify. These include those earning less than the minimum threshold of £9,440, those under the age of 22 and those above state pension age. While those under the age of 22 will be auto-enrolled in future the real concern is part-time workers earning less than £9,440. There are 6.7 million part-time workers in the labour force.
