Dow Jones hits new record high above 15,000

The Dow Jones index broke through the 15,000 point threshold for the first time ever on Tuesday.

The index, which has been on a steady upward trajectory for the past six months, gained another 87 points, or 0.6%, to close at a new peak of 15,056 yesterday. The record high comes following similar gains for other indices, including the S&P 500. The S&P 500 rose 0.52% to close at 1,626, pushing further above 1,600. The latest move up was triggered by strong factory results from Germany coupled with hopes of further central bank action to boost growth.
