STEP launches tax avoidance awareness programme

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) has a released a programme that aims to strengthen national tax systems and fight abusive tax avoidance.

The programme, which will be distributed to the group's 17,500 global members, emphasises the following five key aims:  To fight abuse by simplifying tax systems; Design taxes with an eye on potential abuse; Create a more effective consultation on proposed tax changes; Create a clear responsibility for advisors to warn clients of the dangers of abusive schemes; and Foster joint work between the tax authorities and professional bodies to develop a clear and consistent approach internationally to tackle abusive tax avoidance.
