FOS warns over email scam alert

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has today warned consumers of fraudulent emails claiming to be from members of its staff.

"We've heard that people are getting fraudulent emails claiming to be from staff at the Financial Ombudsman Service," the warning, posted on the FOS's website, read. "The scam emails try to persuade people to reveal confidential details about their personal and financial circumstances. "The Financial Ombudsman Service does not cold-call consumers. We never email or phone people out of the blue to ask for personal information." Consumers who receive receive an unexpected email or phone call from someone who says they work at the Ombudsman should contact the FOS directly.
