Advisers use passives to tap into emerging markets - research

Advisers are increasingly using index funds to access opportunities in emerging markets, research suggests.

Research carried out by Legal & General Investments polling 294 IFAs in January found advisers' top three index fund recommendations are UK, emerging markets and US equities. Of those looking to up their passive fund recommendations, four in five would recommend UK equity index funds. But more than half would favour either an emerging markets (56%) or US (55%) focus. The study suggests that while the UK passive market remains a firm favourite, advisers are increasingly looking beyond the UK and using index funds to access overseas equities and, in particular, emerging markets.
