Pensions Ombudsman staff would be unable to cope with the volume of complaints if auto-enrolment fails, says ombudsman Tony King.
King said auto-enrolment and members’ interactions with schemes into which they were enrolled will lead to complaints, but probably not for some time. “If it is an absolute disaster we would not be able to deal with it. We would be swamped and there would need to be a regulatory solution." King said his office was in discussions with the regulator over the potential volume of complaints that could ultimately stem from auto-enrolment.
