Unions to miss public sector pension reform deadline

Unions and local councils are on collision course with central government after sources revealed officials were set to miss the September deadline to deliver pension reform proposals.

Union chiefs who are currently in negotiations with local government employers have told Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) secretary Eric Pickles (pictured) the 9 September deadline to conclude discussions will be missed. A union source said: "It is highly unlikely we are going to be able to conclude within the timetable that DCLG has set, but we are working as hard as we can.
