Euro inflation held steady at an annual rate of 2.7% in June, according to figures out today.
Eurostat, the European Union's statistics office, said consumer prices for the 17 countries sharing the euro was unchanged from May to June at 2.7%, as expected. A year ago the figure was 1.5%. Inflation in the region remains above the Central Bank's target of 2%, however. This month, the ECB raised interest rates from 1.25% to 1.5% in an effort to reign in inflation. The move was at odds with policy makers at the Bank of England which again held rates at their record low of 0.5%.
