Webb: Simplified state pension fairer for women

Pensions minister Steve Webb has defended the green paper on simplifying the state pension, saying the proposals would provide better outcomes for women.

Answering questions in the House of Commons last week, Webb said: "We are consulting on two options for reform to make the state pension system simpler and fairer for those, including many women, who have historically experienced poor pension outcomes." He said the DWP would release a full assessment of impacts when more detailed proposals where published. The initial consultation paper A state pension for the 21st Century was published on 4 April.
