It's war: Unions threaten turmoil over pension changes

Trade union Unison has declared "war" on the government over public sector pension changes, warning the coalition it is heading for industrial turmoil over its reforms.

The union said it would ballot one million of its members for strike action if the government pushes ahead with its policy to alter public sector schemes. In a warning issued by Unison general secretary Dave Prentis (pictured), the union warned the government of "massive" strikes across public services. "This will not be a token skirmish, but a prolonged and sustained war, because this government has declared war on a huge proportion of the population," Prentis said.
